Summary

This 1950 Act consolidates the law governing the Pakistan Army and Air Force Reserves — the pool of previously enrolled personnel who can be called back into active service. Section 3 says the Reserves consist of the categories listed in the Act's Schedule, which the Federal Government can add to or amend by notification.

Section 4 places reservists under military discipline: an Army reservist is subject to the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, and an Air Force reservist to the Pakistan Air Force Act, 1953 (along with rules made under those Acts), to the extent prescribed. Section 5 confirms reservists can be required to serve both inside and outside Pakistan.

Section 6 gives the Federal Government broad rule-making power over the Reserves, covering how people are enrolled or transferred into the Reserves, their service obligations, periodic training, pay and allowances, the conditions under which their service can be terminated, and gratuities or compensation for reservists or their dependents. Section 7 lets the Chief of the Army Staff (for Army reservists) and the Chief of the Air Staff (for Air Force reservists) make further regulations on training, clothing, equipment, and leave.

The Schedule lists the specific categories of Reserve: for the Army, the Regular Reserve of Officers, Regular Reserve of Junior Commissioned Officers, Supplementary Reserve of Officers, Supplementary Reserve of JCOs and Other Ranks, and Regular Reserves of Other Ranks; for the Air Force, the Regular Reserve and Volunteer Reserve. This is a military organisational law, largely of interest to reservists and defence administrators rather than the general public.
